Women's Health Information Center at UNC Hospitals

Quick and easy changes with ABC Signup
The Women’s Health Information Center is a library and patient resource center at University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Among its many responsibilities, the Center conducts classes for expectant and new families, such as Prepared Childbirth, Baby Sign Language, Boot Camp for New Dads, and Baby in the Dog’s House.

Frequent changes needed fast
The Center needed a registration management system to allow for quick and easy changes to classes and registrations. Such changes occurred frequently because the Center’s clientele “are busy preparing for the birth of a baby,” says Gabrielle Scronce, the Center’s childbirth education coordinator. “Their schedules are unpredictable.”

The Center’s previous registration system wasn’t designed to make changes easy. The lack of flexibility also made it difficult for the center to expand and change its class offerings to meet the needs of its population.

Hours add up
In 2008, the Women’s Health Information Center switched to ABC Signup. The increase in flexibility is still paying dividends. “Right now, we’re adding lots of Spanish language classes,” says Scronce. “And it would have been hard to do that with the old software.” She noted that ABC Signup has saved her about an hour a day, which has led to more personal interaction with Center clientele, resulting in more visitors.

Scronce says it’s also nice to know she can get help using ABC Signup any time she needs it. “I know that if anything pops up, I can call ABC Signup any time. But I rarely have to.”
