About the Institute:
Six Trait writing builds on the foundation of writing process by helping teachers and students better understand what writers do when they revise. The traits provide teachers with three key ingredients to assist in their teaching of writing:
a common language with which to discuss writing,
a reasonably consistent and objective method to assess student writing, and
a gateway into revision.

About the Presenter:
Debbie Rutherford
Debbie Rutherford has over 30 combined years of teaching and consulting in the Midwest. She incorporated the Six-Traits of Writing into her elementary classroom writing instruction and experienced very positive student growth in thinking, speaking, reading, and writing. The Six-Trait model has allowed her students to become more effective communicators across the curriculum. Debbie believes the Six-Traits of Writing affords a way to develop writers through sound, basic, fundamental, researched practices and theories. For the first time, Debbie feels she has found a way to take the “mystery” out of writing, while leaving the “magic” in!
