Led by Melissa Semmes-Thorne, president of SPEAK (Speaking with Power and Effectiveness for Adults and Kids)
How often have you been called upon to read scripture that was simply “impossible?” You know, the one with forty-six names from the Old Testament or one of St. Paul’s interminable run-on sentences! Ms. Semmes-Thorne will work with you to improve your skills in the oral interpretation of literature, i.e., reading aloud in church. The object is not to teach you to read aloud (you already know how to do that), but to help you to learn to read aloud more effectively for your congregation’s understanding. This workshop will take place in the sanctuary of the church. You will learn a series of simple tools to use in preparing a reading and have an opportunity to work with these concepts in a coaching session involving readings from the lectionary.
