Leader: The Right Reverend Mark Sisk, Fifteenth Bishop of the Diocese of New York
This conference hopes to provide the participants a useful occasion to grapple with, and come to celebrate, this most unexpected part of ordained ministry. As Bishop Sisk’s says, “From my experience, first as a seminary dean for 14 years and now for the last 12 years as a bishop, the thing that priests and deacons do not expect (I certainly didn't) is the extent to which, once ordained, their lives are not their own. The ordained person becomes a ‘public person’ whether she or he expects to or not, whether he or she wants it or not. It is simply a fact.” The purpose of the Conference is to reflect on this fact, and its several dimensions.
