This course will increase the knowledge and skill of both general and special education staff related to compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. After completion of this course, participants will be able to facilitate 504 conferences, identify discriminatory practices, and assist in developing and being able to (defend) against challenges to 504 Plans. Included in this course will be a detailed comparison between Section 504 and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEIA). This course will also address the impact of the recent amendments to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as well as the impact of the recent regulatory mandates regarding revocation of parental consent for special education services and programming. 

The cost of this workshop  which includes lunch is $100 for anyone who is not a SWCCCASE employee or a part of one of our 11 member school districts. There is no charge for this workshop if you are an employee of SWCCCASE or one of our 11 member districts. Payments should be in the form of a check or P.O. Checks should be made out to Southwest Cooperative and can be sent with the registration statement you will receive via email. Instructor Information:
Ms. Christina Sepiol is the Assistant Director of the SWCCCASE Cooperative.  Prior to joining the Cooperative, she served as legal counsel for school districts throughout  Cook, Will, DuPage and Lake counties.  Ms. Sepiol holds a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education, a Master's degree in Educational Administration and a Juris Doctorate degree.  She has taught special education in the south suburban area and has been a building principal of an alternative day school within the SPEED Cooperative. For the past 10 years, Ms. Sepiol has concentrated her practice on addressing the special education issues facing both Districts and Cooperatives.
