This is more than a book group! An action read is what the name implies: taking action related to a common reading and sharing the results with colleagues. Each action read is based on a book selected for reading and discussion by a small interdisciplinary group of colleagues who come together with the intention of discussing the book and learning from their experience and from each other. Colleagues use the book as a springboard for ideas to try out in their classrooms. Action reads are generally offered as a series of three to five one-hour (one per week) sessions facilitated by a faculty member or graduate assistant. Each Action Read is free and open to all who teach at KSU. Faculty members may propose to facilitate an Action Read and work with an FPDC staff member to prepare for the series. Faculty members may propose to facilitate an Action Read open to the university, or, to lead a selected group (department, committee) that includes at least five members.
A fun event planned for graduate students and early career faculty in which you get to learn new ideas, revisit old friends and gain experience to document in a Teaching or Professional Development file. Each participant will receive a free personal copy of the Action Read book.
Keep in mind that when you sign up for an Action Read, you are committed to attend all three Action Read sessions.
