Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Courses
CPDs are Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) credit-bearing courses provided for teachers for certification renewal. These courses are designed to extend, enhance, and refine educators' professional development. Credits for these courses are submitted through Human Resources to MSDE for an individual's certification. Attendance is required for all days in order to receive MSDE credits. The number of credits is identified for each course. Three (3) credit courses consist of 45 contact hours.

Beginning with the Fall 2008 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses, a tuition structure will be in place at the rate of $15.00 per credit. These tuition costs for CPD courses are eligible for tuition reimbursement. As always, staff members must apply for tuition reimbursement in advance and must complete all course requirements. Your CPD credit form will serve as documentation of completion for CPD credit.

In the case of insufficient enrollment or emergency, an offering may be cancelled. Participants will be notified by email and given the opportunity to enroll in another course. The Office of Staff Development also reserves the right to postpone classes, limit registration, and assign registration priority when deemed necessary. Participants will be notified of any changes before the class begins via email. When scheduled workshops cannot be held because of holiday or emergencies (snow, power outage, etc.) the missed class time MUST be made up. Instructors are encouraged to schedule the makeup time through collaborative dialogue with workshop participants.

Selected teachers may elect to earn CPD renewal credit for curriculum writing provided they submit the Application for Pre-Approval of a Professional Development Activity, in advance, to Human Resources.
